PRO DUTCH LOOKING FORWARD TO 2007
Yep, we did good in our rookie year. Managed to win at Hockenheim and set the Dutch PM speed record at 359 km/h. also managed to qualified at the FIA races we attended. We are very happy with these results and looking forward to take the Pro Dutch Corvette to the next level. In 2007 we planned to run the whole FIA European championship tour. With an updated engine, fresh parts in the trailer and some assistants from Jim we are going to try to be faster. Let’s see if we can impress our fans and sponsors in 2007 !

Pro Dutch visits Oddy’s Automotive
Wow, what a trip it was! First the pilot gets sick and we depart over an hour late. Then instead of heading directly to Philadelphia we have to make a stop in Bangor, Maine for a pilot change. Needless to say we arrived over three hours late and our flight to Buffalo, New York was long gone. We booked ourselves on the next available flight and got a bite to eat during our wait.
We arrived in Buffalo, New York just before 11pm and got our rental car only to find that you cannot fit four normal sized suitcases in a Cadillac, so we swap for a Jeep Laredo and head for the hotel. Of course everyone wakes up bright and early (6 hour time difference) and we head out for breakfast at 6am. We found a nice place (Lucky’s Diner) that became our daily breakfast stop. We ask the waitress about Jim Oddy and believe it or not she has heard of him and knows right where his shop is. She was surprised to hear that Jim Oddy was so well known even outside of the United States.
So after a great breakfast we hop in the car and cruise on over to Oddy’s. As you walk in it’s just as one might expect. Lots of brand new speed parts and one large stack marked just for us. Christmas again in February !
Mr. Oddy is a very busy man and I don’t think the telephone ever stopped ringing the entire time we were there. Oddy’s has a great crew working at the shop and although some of the people there may not be blood relatives you can easily tell that they are all family. They did make the time to talk with us about the Corvette and made sure we were aware of the do’s and don’ts with running a supercharged Pro Mod car.
It just so happens that Oddy’s was setting up a “Bracket” Hemi and they invited us (along with the engine’s owner) to watch the initial pull on the dyno. We had been so long without a racing fix that when that Hemi fired up the exhaust and blower whine were sweet music to our ears.
Once the engine is warmed up and everything checks out the first pull is made.

After a couple of days at Oddy’s we had all our parts and lots of information on the car. We talked to Mr. Oddy about the local chassis builders at G-Force Race Cars and he made a call to see if we could get a visit. The guys at G-Force were really busy working to get a chassis completed, but they decided to take a little time and show the Dutch guys around the shop. We saw some nice equipment and an almost completed version of the newest Pro Mod chassis out there.

Well, after coming all the way to Buffalo, New York there was no way we were going to leave without seeing Niagara Falls. The best view is from the Canada side, so across the border we went. The Falls were beautiful.
It was definitely cold and the spray was freezing everywhere.Although it does get colder in other places we were plenty cold enough at -13. Of course we did go out to some nice restaurants and had some tasty meals.
Heck, We even stopped off for a beer or two ,
or three (hey, who was counting) at some of the local establishments. We even had an urge to go shoot something so guess what we did? We went to a shooting range, rented an AK-47 and shot 140 rounds of ammunition. Stop by the truck and we’ll show you one of the targets we were shooting at. (You may want to ask Robert about his choice of areas to shoot.)
Sunday came quickly and back to the airport we went. The trip back was a little delayed but nothing like our trip coming over. We’re back now, safe and sound and ready to get the car together for some runs at the track. More later after we make our initial runs at Santa Pod Raceway in April 2006.
Pro Dutch promoveert naar Pro Modified
Januari 2006 - Na diverse titels in de klassen Super Gas en Super Comp maakt Robert Joosten (Zwijndrecht) in 2006 een sprong omhoog op de internationale dragrace-ladder. De meervoudig kampioen doet dit jaar zijn intrede in de klasse Pro Modified! Zijn team Pro Dutch Racing heeft beslag weten te leggen op de ex-Jim Oddy Corvette C5 en beschikt daarmee in één klap over één van de snelste Pro Mods van Europa!
Het was alleen nog maar de vraag wanneer Robert Joosten de overstap naar één van de hoogste internationale dragrace-klassen zou maken. Reeds twee jaar geleden werd een plan opgesteld dat moest leiden tot deze promotie. Afgelopen seizoen viel daarbij definitief de keuze op de Pro Modified-klasse. Pro Modified is de snelste klasse voor ‘auto’s met deuren’ (doorslammers). Pro Mods leggen de ¼ mijl af in 6,2 seconden en bereiken daarbij een eindsnelheid van meer dan 350 kilometer per uur! Met startvelden van meer dan 25 deelnemers heeft de strijd om het Europees Kampioenschap in deze snel groeiende klasse de afgelopen jaren sterk aan betekenis gewonnen. Met ingang van dit seizoen heeft het Europees Kampioenschap Pro Modified zelfs de officiële FIA-status.
Na vele successen met in eerste instantie de ‘Bad Nova’ en de afgelopen jaren de ‘Pro Truck Chevrolet S10’ ging het team in de loop van 2005 op zoek naar een geschikt wapen voor de Pro Modified-klasse. Het oog viel daarbij meteen op de ex-Jim Oddy Corvette C5. In Amerika was deze auto in 2004 nog goed voor een tijd van 6,07 seconden! Daarmee is de Corvette op papier in ieder geval de snelste Pro Mod van Europa. Joosten heeft de auto overgenomen van Filippos Papafilippou. Deze Griek kocht de Corvette begin 2005 van Oddy maar vond de auto na de eerste kennismaking toch ‘iets te veel van het goede’.
Begin 2005 werden door het team al de eerste concrete stappen gezet om in 2006 naar een topklasse in de Europese dragrace-sport door te stoten. Zo werd een perfect geoutilleerde truck en racetrailer aangeschaft en werd het team omgedoopt in de internationaal aansprekende naam Pro Dutch Racing. Nu de Corvette C5 in Zwijndrecht is gearriveerd, gaan de voorbereidingen in volle vaart verder. Inmiddels is de auto volledig gestript om in de komende weken weer als nieuw te worden opgebouwd. Uiteraard wordt de Corvette C5 ook voorzien van de fraaie Pro Dutch-teamkleuren. Met de drie monteurs, Jaap Oonincx, Jan Selles en Dennis Freed is ook de crew op volle ‘oorlogssterkte’ om een internationaal seizoen het hoofd te kunnen bieden.
Als voorbereiding op het aankomende seizoen reizen Joosten en zijn crew in februari af naar Amerika. Daar zullen zij bij Jim Oddy een training ondergaan en alle ‘ins en outs’ van de auto leren kennen. Het seizoen 2006 staat voor rijder en team vooral in het teken van het volledig vertrouwd raken met de auto en zijn complexe techniek. In het Paasweekend maakt de Pro Dutch Corvette C5 in Engeland zijn debuut. Half mei volgt nog een testsessie waarna in de zomermaanden een beperkt wedstrijdprogramma zal worden afgewerkt. Voor 2007 staat een deelname aan het volledige FIA Europees Pro Modified Kampioenschap gepland.
